Higher Ed Connections

Since 2013, enrollments in teacher preparation programs have dropped nationally by 35% with numbers as high as 50% in many states.

Create and maintain a consistent pipeline of impassioned aspiring educators

  • Recruit a steady stream of the most impassioned aspiring educators into teacher preparation programs
  • Establish EdRising Collegiate chapters to support students and increase retention
  • Provide recognition for high achieving students with the Pi Lambda Theta honor society
  • Be a pillar of the community-based grow your own strategy by offering supports and dual-credit options to local Educators Rising student chapters

It was so important to bring our universities into the Educators Rising movement and offer dual credit to show students that the community was serious about welcoming them into the profession and giving them a leg up in the process.

Why Educators Rising

Boosting Enrollment

61% of teachers teach within 20 miles of where they went to school, so it is critical to have a community plan to drive enrollment from the districts. Educators Rising provides a nationally recognized and proven pathway at the middle, high school, and collegiate levels to empower impassioned aspiring educators to become teachers.

Ensuring the Retention and Graduation

Educators Rising is designed to keep aspiring teachers on the path and into the classroom by inspiring them early, providing hope and support in both EdRising High School and Collegiate Chapters. EdRising students are 400% more likely to achieve their childhood dreams to be a teacher than students aspiring to enter other fields.

We know that students who have participated in the Educators Rising program are better candidates for joining your teacher pathway program. We are happy to verify membership for any student who lists participation on their college application. Simply email your request for verification to info@educatorsrising.org. Be sure to include the students name and mailing address in your request.

Addressing the Teacher Diversity Issue

The urgent issues raised by COVID-19 do not diminish the need for more teacher diversity. In the February 2019 issue of Kappan, researchers explain that racial and ethnic matches between teachers and students lead to better outcomes for students, particularly those from high-poverty or at-risk backgrounds. Educators Rising preservice candidates are 51% students of color.

There’s power in teaching.

There are few things more important or more powerful than the opportunity to shape a young person’s mind, and that’s what teaching is at its core. It’s a job where you’re making a difference every minute. For a student, one skilled teacher opens up a world of possibilities.

There’s never been a greater need for smart, creative young people to choose teaching as a career. By joining Educators Rising, students can set themselves on the path to becoming that innovative, skilled, life-changing teacher.

Not only do we work with student and student programs, we also encourage work at the intersection of research and practice with our Kappan magazine and opportunities for education and education policy graduate students to do research and projects with us.

It costs on average $10,000 to recruit and onboard a teacher, many of whom may not have even gone through a traditional teacher-prep program. Educators Rising as a community allows districts and institutes of higher ed to join forces and develop a more diverse and higher quality teacher workforce.

How do we get started?

Join the Movement

As a national program, we may have an Educators Rising high school chapter in your area already. We are working to contact districts, institutes of higher education, state departments of education, and funders to become part of an Educators Rising community movement. Contact us today to learn more at info@educatorsrising.org and get connected.

Sponsor an Educators Rising Collegiate Chapter

Aspiring educators only become effective in the classroom with support and mentorship. Teacher prep programs are only part of the equation. Students crave peer support and interaction with like-minded aspiring professionals as they prepare to become leaders and advocates for education beyond the classroom.

Recognize Your High Achievers

Students with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA in your rigorous education program are eligible to become members of the esteemed Pi Lambda Theta honor society for educators. Offering Pi Lambda Theta’s honor and recognition to your students is easy. All you have to do is send us a list of your eligible students, and we will follow up with them directly with personalized invitations to join.
