News Release: Educators Rising Announces National Student Leaders

July 01, 2017

Arlington, Va., July 1, 2017 — Today, Educators Rising announced its national student leaders for the 2017–2018 school year.

The two Educators Rising National Student Officers were elected by student members in May 2017. Lennon Audrain is a rising freshman at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., and Tamir Harper is a rising senior at Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia, Pa.

The National Student Cabinet Member was appointed by PDK International Chief Executive Officer Joshua P. Starr. Abigael Dillon is a rising senior at Lexington High School in Lexington, Texas.

Educators Rising Co-Director Dan Brown said, “Student leadership and student voice are at the core of Educators Rising. Lennon, Tamir, and Abigael have a demonstrated track record of excellence at the local and state levels, and now I’m delighted that they will serve as external ambassadors and internal advisers for Educators Rising at the national level. With young leaders like these, the future of the teaching profession is bright.”

The three national student leaders will serve a one-year term, during which they will:

  • Serve as representatives of the organization at local, state, and national events
  • Attend leadership training at the Educators Rising national office in Arlington, Va.
  • Participate in speaking and writing opportunities, as well as social media engagement
  • Collaborate successfully on a professional team that includes Educators Rising staff
  • Plan and emcee the 2018 Educators Rising National Conference, which takes place June 21–24, 2018, in Orlando, Fla.

The goal of Educators Rising is to attract promising students to pursue education-related careers and to help them develop the skills and strong leadership traits that are found in high-quality educators. In addition to providing students with valuable leadership opportunities, the national student leader roles are an important way for Educators Rising to include student voices in key decisions about the direction of the organization.
