News Release: Call for Applications for Educators Rising Curriculum Development Team

Arlington, Va., June 7, 2016 — Educators Rising is building a gold-standard cocurricular program to help high school students explore teaching.

Applications are now open to serve on the Educators Rising Curriculum Development Team. The team will be comprised of 8–10 members selected from a nationwide search, representing a diverse group of experts in the field. We are seeking team members with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Teacher preparation coursework and instruction
  • Curriculum development for secondary students
  • Performance-based assessment design
  • Teaching cultural competence

DELIVERABLES

The team’s final deliverables, all of which will be mapped to Educators Rising Standards, will include:

  • All content and resources to support teaching a two-year cocurricular pathway program for high school juniors and seniors to explore teaching
  • Six micro-credentials — performance-based assessments — nested within the two-year program

COMMITMENT

The bulk of the project will be completed virtually using Google Docs, WebEx, conference calls, and email; proficiency in online collaboration is an expectation of all team members. The demands will fluctuate throughout the project, which will begin in August and end in December, but selected team members should expect to dedicate a range of 5–15 hours per week to the work.

Additionally, the full team will meet twice on-site in the Washington, DC, metro area; each meeting will be three full days in length. Additional meetings for some team members may be required. Meetings typically take place Thursday through Saturday.

All team members must participate in all days of all required meetings. Please ensure your availability for the following on-site meeting dates if you choose to submit an application:

  • August 10–12, 2016
  • September 22–24, 2016

COMPENSATION

Each team member will receive a $4,000 stipend, with half paid after the second on-site meeting and the balance paid upon final completion of the project on December 16, 2016. Team members’ travel, lodging, transit, and per diem expenses will be covered for on-site meetings. Educators Rising will also reimburse for any project-related expenses incurred.

Additionally, Educators Rising will reimburse for substitute teachers if requested by the team member's school district.

DEADLINE

The application period will close at 11:59 p.m. ET on July 1, 2016. Applicants will be notified of their status by July 12, 2016.
